Field measurement procedure, as recorded in the Campstead ledger. Two measurements. No tape measure heroics.

Fig. 1 — laid flat, wrinkles permitted.
Chest width. Measure across — not around — the chest, one inch below the armhole, with the shirt laid flat. Around is a different number and a different argument.
Length. Measure from the highest point of the shoulder straight down to the bottom hem. Gravity assists.
